A 400-euro dental grant: FESTURNER opens its 2026 call

The Spanish Turner Syndrome Federation (FESTURNER) has opened its 2026 round of the dental grant «Tu sonrisa también importa» — “Your smile matters too” — aimed at girls and women with Turner syndrome who cannot afford dental treatment. The call is open from 1 October to 30 December 2026, and the maximum award is 400 euros per beneficiary, according to the rules published by the federation on its website.

The starting requirement is a confirmed diagnosis, documented in a medical report or certificate, plus a need for dental care. Applications are open both to people with an official disability recognition and to those without one, and minors may apply through their mother, father, guardian or legal representative. Applicants must live in Spain, submit a quote or treatment plan issued by a dental clinic or professional, and not have access to another public or private grant covering the whole of the same treatment. One detail worth reading carefully: applicants must also prove membership of one of the associations that make up the federation and be up to date with their subscription.

The grant covers check-ups and diagnosis, hygiene and prevention, decay, fillings and reconstructions, periodontal and paediatric dental treatment, restorations, emergencies and the radiographs required. Excluded, unless the rules say otherwise, are purely cosmetic treatments, work carried out before the decision, and costs already paid in full by another grant. The federation even allows the money to be paid directly to the clinic, so that the beneficiary does not have to pay up front — a mechanism that in practice decides whether a family can access treatment at all.

When applications exceed the number of grants available, assessment distributes 100 points: 40 for financial need, 30 for the necessity and priority of the treatment, 15 for family or social circumstances, 10 for difficulty accessing other resources, and 5 for situations of particular vulnerability. The committee that reviews applications includes, where possible, a representative of each member association, a dental professional and the board. The call depends on available funds, which the organisation will cover with its own resources and donations from the Fundación la Caixa.

Oral health is among the areas that should be monitored for life in Turner syndrome, according to the international guideline published in 2024, and routine dental reviews often fall outside public coverage beyond basic care. FESTURNER, set up in 2025 to bring together the regional associations, presents this call as one of its first direct financial support schemes for families; the full rules, deadlines and application form are available on its website.
